This Face Lotion Disappointed Me!

This Face Lotion Disappointed Me!

I was quite excited when I picked up the box to Nourish Organic’s Lightweight Moisturizing Face Lotion. The very first thing that caught my eye was the roses on the box, followed by the USDA ORGANIC seal. If you read any of my previous posts you would know what I am obsessed with Rose Oils, rosewater, anything rose, especially in skincare. It is my weakness. So seeing that this product had rosewater, Argan oil, and was organic got me really excited.

This is a lightweight face lotion, made for normal to dry skin. Nourish Organic claims that this face lotion

Moisturizes, softens and protects for younger, healthier looking skin. It provides continuous moisture throughout the day while replenishing essential skin nutrients. Rich in vitamins and antioxidants to boost skin’s defenses and leave skin healthier and younger looking every day.

The Morrocan argan oil contains omega fatty acids which are supposed to restore, replenish and “intensely hydrate,” as worded on the box. Rosewater evens out skin tone and smoothes the skins texture. While shea butter keeps the skins moisture all day and improves the skin’s elasticity. After reading all of this on the box I thought that this would be a great product, nice and lightweight, perfect for the summer. Unfortunately this product did not live up to its expectations.

The box says it is lightweight, but I didn’t expect it to be super lightweight. It feels very watered-down. When applied to the skin it does not provide that hydrating feel that you would expect in any face lotion, let alone one that claims to be moisturizing and good for dry skin. It doesn’t give that soft, moisturized, healthy feel even seconds after it’s applied. After it’s rubbed into the skin, it almost feels a little bit greasy. It left my skin feeling greasy and my forehead, chin and cheeks looked very shiny. I did not like the way this product felt at all, and the shiny look it gave me made it even worse.

The scent is another thing I did not enjoy about this product. It smells more like “orangey” and citrusy and there is no notes of rose that I can smell. The organic sweet orange essential oil and possibly the Acai Fruit Oil just smells weird to me. Although its organic and has no synthetic ingredients, the smell reminds me of a chemical + citrus smell, something you would find in a cheap product with a lot of chemical ingredients. The smell is not very pleasant, it is not something you would enjoy putting on your face.

The product smells weird, does not feel hydrating at all when it is first applied, and it does even less all day long. The Shea butter is supposed to lock in and provide moisture throughout the day, but no it does not do that. I put this product on my skin after washing my face in the morning, and stayed home for most of the day. I wasn’t sweating, I was inside the air conditioning; this should have been a very easy wearability test to pass. Within the first hour, my face felt extremely dry; I never put face lotion on over and over during the day, only after washing my face in the morning and at night. But an hour after applying the Nourish Organic Lightweight Moisturizing Face Lotion, I had to put more on, my skin felt parched. After putting it on the second time, my skin felt greasy and gross. In the late afternoon I took a shower and began getting ready for my night at work. I put this face lotion on again after my shower to give it another chance, but before I left the house for work my face felt incredibly greasy again. I had to wash my face again before leaving the house. I ditched using this product and put on my other new face cream, the Weleda Renewing Day Cream. After that my skin felt great, hydrated and I did not need to reapply any lotion until washing my face after work.

The Nourish Organic Face Lotion was $19.99 at Whole Foods. It contains 1.7 FL OZ of product. It is not super cheap, but it is not an expensive product either. The packaging, both the box and plastic tube the lotion comes in looks really great, it made me want to buy it. The claims on the box made me think this would be the perfect lightweight moisturizer for a summer day, not a thick creme but a lightweight lotion. I thought it would provide the perfect amount of moisture for the hot, humid weather in Jersey during the summer. During the wintertime when the air is extremely dry I opt for something thicker, but in the humid summer I go for a lightweight product. But it couldn’t even provide enough moisture for an hour inside of the house, let alone a day in the heat. Then after a second application my skin felt very greasy. Seeing the organic seal made me even more drawn to this product, although the ingredients are great the formula doesn’t do anything for me.

I tried giving the lotion several more chances but it just didn’t work out for me. I rarely find a product I dislike so much, even if it’s just ok I usually keep it and find use for it. I will actually be returning this product, that’s how horrid it is to me. I just wrote Well Done Weleda, about the Weleda Renewing Day Cream. I bought it at the same time as I bought the Nourish Organic Face Lotion. From reading the packaging I thought I would like the Nourish Organic product better, but you can never judge a book by its cover or a product by its box!

The Weleda Day Cream beat this product so badly, there is absolutely no comparison. It hydrates and smoothes your skin, the scent of rose is perfect, it is not too thick but not super light. The only downside to the Weleda Renewing Day Cream is that is comes in a 1 FL OZ bottle for about $28 (however I will link the Weleda Amazon Store where the product is about $10 less!) The amount of product you get is a little on the small side, but the ingredients are top notch and you only need a tiny bit of product to cover your entire face. I need about 1/3 the amount of the Weleda day cream to cover my face compared to the Nourish Organic Face Lotion’s lightweight formula which needs a lot more.

The Veridict

I would say to skip the Nourish Organic Lightweight Moisturizing Face Lotion. Everyone is different and some people might really enjoy this product but I will say this. If you have very dry skin, this product will not supply the moisture you need. If it can’t mositurize my “normal skin,” I doubt it can take care of very dry skin. The product also feels greasy, it might make oily skin worse although it is not recommended for that skin type. While writing this I put some on my face again and it feels gross and greasy, I needed to pause to get a face cleansing wipe. To top it all off the smell is not very pleasant. This is for sure what you would call a product fail.

Although I did not have success with the face lotion, Nourish Organic has a “Ultra Moisturizing” Face Creme. I might try it just to see if it is in fact moisturizing and if it has the same greasy feel as the lotion. I am also curious about their face serum. Try This Instead!

As mentioned, the Weleda Renewing Day Cream was an outstanding product. It isn’t super thick but not very lightweight either. There is no greasy feeling, just a wonderful hydrating sensation. The Renewing Day Cream is a good alternative for the Nourish Organic Face Lotion because it also contains Wild Rose Oil that softens fine lines. Weleda has several different product lines of face lotions & cremes. If you have a Whole Foods near you, they have samples out on display for you to try, good for all different skin types. The retail price on the Weleda Website is $28.50 and it cost $27.99 at Whole Foods. It is much more expensive there than buying it on Amazon, the Weleda store on Amazon has it for $17.00, more than $10 off the retail price, making it more affordable to those who don’t want to spend nearly $30 on a face moisturizer.

Weleda’s store on Amazon has fantastic prices, a lot of the products are like $10 less than listed on their own website or at Whole Foods plus the shipping is FREE!! You can click on any of the images above to be redirected to Amazon so you can get a steal on some of Weleda’s products.
