Great Value Deep Cleansing Sponges

Sponges seem to work wonders these days. Most of us beauty gurus are familiar with and will swear by our beauty blenders. Truthfully nothing works better. So when it comes to face cleansing I wasn’t surprised when my new favorite tool was a sponge. A konjac sponge to be precise.

CharcoalSponge

When I first bought my Precision Beauty Clarifying Bamboo Charcoal Konjac Sponge, I was just drawn to it on the store display and decided to give it a go. For $4.99 it was worth the try. It comes inside plastic packaging, and you can see moisture inside. The sponge is made from the root of the konjac plant, an all natural fiber. It has a fine texture that makes it perfect for removing impurities from the skin. It claims to bring out your brightest complexion. It is great for all skin types. The Bamboo Charcoal Sponge I first tried helps control oil and has detoxifying properties.

All you have to do is run the sponge under water in the shower and it becomes soft (although it is soft when you first remove it from the packaging.) When it dries it becomes stiff. Squeeze out the excess water and add a small amount of facial cleanser. Just rub it over your face in a circular motion, and rinse after each use. It is recommended to replace every 1-3 months.

On my first use, I had removed my makeup prior to going into the shower. My second makeup remover wipe was completely clean so I was left to believe there was no more makeup on my face. I jumped into the shower, wet my sponge, added a bit of Philosophy’s Purity Facial Cleanser (a staple in my bathroom.) What I saw shocked me. After rubbing it on my face, you could see foundation on the sponge. Whatever was deep in my pores had been removed with this amazing tool.

I’ve tried the Ulta Dual Action Cleansing Brush System ($24.99) which I didn’t really like. I had also bought the Clarisonic Mia 1 Facial Sonic Cleansing Brush with a price tag of $129. It claims to clean your skin 6x better then hands. I didn’t notice too much of a difference either, and for the price I personally don’t recommend it. The Precision Beauty Konjac Sponge cleans you face better than hands, probably just as well as the Clarisonic. You can see the results, all the dirt and grime picked up by the sponge while still being super gentle on your face.

GreenTeaSponge

Just last week I gave my sister one of the sponges, this one was the Precision Beauty Antioxidant Green Tea Konjac Sponge. The green tea extract infused in this one helps to heal blemishes and prevents further breakouts. My sister doesn’t have bad acne, but does breakout during “that time of the month.” She called me two days later to say “that sponge you gave me is awesome, it really cleans your face. You can tell it is really pulling dirt from your skin.” I even bought my boyfriend one and he is totally turned onto it. He doesn’t wash his face now without using it.

I have just replaced the first one I bought. It lasted me about 4 months, longer than the recommended use. It still had some life to it, but it was ripping slightly in certain areas. I was using it everyday 1-2x a day, so I definitely got great use out of it for the $5 I spent. When I went to Whole Foods to buy another they were sold out. They restock them often, but you always see after a week the display is nearly empty, it must be a popular item. When they restocked I bought several. I tried another brand as well, but I don’t have the packaging so I will have to find out what it was and add it on later. I did not like it as much as the Precision Beauty as it was smaller, and I personally like the bigger size. I did like that it was infused with Rose hip, since I am rose obsessed.

This really goes to show you don’t need to spend a ton of money on deep cleaning brushes, a simple konjac sponge will do the trick. It will last a fairly long time if you rinse it thoroughly, and hang it to dry. It works with any types of cleansers, as well as scrubs. Try it for yourself and tell me what you think!
